1. Fixed bollards

Fixed bollards are permanently set into the ground and cannot be removed or repositioned once installed. They are the highest-impact-resistance option available and require no ongoing operational management — once installed, they are simply there.

How they are installed: Fixed bollards are set into concrete footings via in-ground embedment, core drilling into existing concrete, or cast-in-place installation during construction. The embedment depth is determined by the bollard’s specified impact rating and the load-bearing capacity of the substrate.

Installation methods

In-ground embedment (new construction) The most structurally robust method. The bollard or its ground sleeve is cast into a concrete footing during construction or a concrete pour specifically for the installation. This is the preferred method for fixed bollards in high-impact-rating applications.

Core drilling (existing concrete) Where concrete slabs, pavements, or paths already exist, core drilling creates the hole for the bollard sleeve without requiring a full saw-cut or pour. The sleeve is set into the core-drilled hole with non-shrink grout. This is the most common method for retrofit bollard installation in Melbourne commercial and retail settings.

Surface mounting (bolt-down) A steel base plate is fixed to the existing surface via anchor bolts.
